Cameron Conover prepares his 2.0 Jetta for a pull on the Dynojet

We had a big day at Turbo Tune in Greensboro, putting our cars on the Dyno, and discovering the put up or shut up factor- we had some fun and some pleasant surprises, and even a few Non-Dubs showed to partake in the fun. Jimmy Foster was VW Big Dog with his chipped but otherwise stock 2000 GTI 1.8T at approx 205hp at the crank, but a big block Chevy truck ruled the day with 490hp and 606 lb-ft of torque.

Mark of Turbo Tune ties down Jimmy Foster's GTI with the ractchet straps. These straps not only serve to keep the car in one spot as you accelerate but they also give the car traction on the rollers by pulling down on the car, preventing wheelspin.

Keith Peoples' Jetta GLI waits for it's turn to twist the rollers. Keith found out that his headwork and cams he has installed really paid off, with approximately 156hp at the crank, but rev limiter woes kept him from making peak power.

Jimmy Foster relaxes while letting the turbo in his 2000 GTI 1.8T cool off between runs. Large fans are in place in front of the cars so that they have proper air flow for the radiators and engine intakes. Most everyone got at least three pulls on the Dynojet.

Todd Hesskamp also has a silver GTI, but his is a VR6 powered example. His car is also chipped, but the turbo GTI chips can vary engine boost, allowing more potential from just that one mod. Todd was pleased with his 195hp at the crank though, and vows to be Top Dog next time.

What happens when you put a 502 cu in big block Chevy plant into a 1955 truck? 490hp and 606 lb-ft of torque. Andy Hine brought this beautiful truck out to show that carburators and pushrods can still mean plenty of power.

This Dyno Chart for Ken Neher's Scirocco is an example of just how valuable the Dynojet can be- the blue lines are the power and torque for the first run, and the red lines are the power and torque after adjusting the mixture and timing- Ken found 7hp at the crank, merely by getting the car tuned right! The lines on the bottom of the graph show the air to fuel ratio- the first run was a bit richer than the other, part of the reason the second run was more powerful.
